An Engineer-Philosopher’s Approach to the Interaction of Earthquakes and the Built Environment

The world is not as it seems.  This also pertains to the built environment.  Energy flow is in everything.  Structures that we often think of as "rigid" are actually vibrant with energy and have their own unique personalities (natural period, etc.).  Likewise, every earthquake also has its own personality, energy content and frequency signatures.  When the energy from an earthquake enters a structure and interacts with its energy there is a dance of energies and it is analogous to a musician (the earthquake) playing a musical instrument (the structure).
